Nature Observation #1

Nature Observation #1

The small stream flowed lusciously in the pure greenbelt by my house. The water sparkled with the sun’s reflection as if someone had thrown glitter into the steady brook. The plants surrounding the stream had a perfect arch to them, allowing the leaves to flawlessly drape over the water without ever getting wet.

My eyes focused on the singular drops of water, which moved quicker than one might expect. Each tiny drop resembled that of a marathon runner racing downstream, on the verge of finishing an unending race. I wondered where this water came from, and where it was going. I reached my hand down to feel the smooth undefined texture that water possesses. I scooped up a small amount with my two hands and splashed it on my face. The water chilled my sweaty pores from a hot Texas afternoon, giving me the immediate refreshment that I needed.

I followed a few specific drops for quite some time until eventually, they regathered into a larger body of water. The quickness of the water had suddenly disappeared, and now a more tranquil scene took its place. The contrasting environments of the face-paced stream and the still pond made me notice the constant equilibrium of nature. For every action that occurs in nature, there is an equal and opposite event to cancel it out. Nature is pure, and in an everlasting balance.

  1. Thanks, this is another really thoughtful and interesting description. Amazing what we can see when we take the time to look at something as small as a drop of water. I wish I could believe that there was still an everlasting balance in nature.
